AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY
SAN ANTONIO SECTION

February 13, 2009

Dear High School Science Educator,

The San Antonio Section of the American Chemical Society (ACS) is pleased to announce the continuation of The Dr. Gloria Lyle Chemistry Scholarship Award. This award is made possible in part through the generosity of the late Dr. Gloria Lyle, for whom this award is named, and her husband Dr. Robert Lyle. The purpose of the fund is to reward a deserving female high school or college student for her academic achievement and her intentions to pursue a career in science. The amount of the award for this year will be $1000 dollars. The winner of this award will be selected from applications received by April 15, 2009. The award will be presented at the Annual ACS Banquet Meeting to be held in May 2009. The Local ACS Section hopes that this scholarship will continue to be a meaningful annual award for deserving young science students.

This award will be made to a local high school or college student who:
• is female,
• has a strong interest in science,
• has a high grade point average,
• has a high SAT and ACT score,
• has well defined career goals in science,
• is financially deserving, and
• possesses outstanding character.

The honoree will be selected from nominations made by science (chemistry) teachers in south Texas. Completed nomination forms for students who fit the profile described above must be submitted and received at the following address no later than April 15, 2009 in order for the students to be considered as candidates for this award.
